The Kitchen

"The most amazing kitchen I have ever cooked or eaten in..."

The huge kitchen at Broad How  is now better than ever. It is welcoming, light, modern and well-equipped, providing an ideal space to cater for large groups.  Equipped with a Stoves Sterling-1100ei electric range with induction hob and three ovens and a slow-cooker, a Siemens tall larder fridge and small under-counter freezer (a further six foot Bosch fridge-freezer is housed in the Old Wash House). We now have two dishwashers, as well as a microwave, food-processor, coffee machine, and all of the kitchen utensils you would expect and more. [A full inventory can be downloaded here.]

There is a huge collection of genuine TG Green blue and white cornishware, and a growing collection of Herdy mugs. As elsewhere, there is a perfect balance between fulfilling the large-scale needs of a big house and the friendly touches of a real family home.

The room also has two large picture windows looking out down the valley towards Ullswater.  There can be few kitchen sinks with quite so dramatic a view, nor many where you may well see red squirrels frolicking on the walls - regularly spotted from here.

In the centre of it all is the vast kitchen table, built around a very old solid oak farmhouse table, and extended to cater for the large numbers.  If that table could talk, the stories it could tell of everything that has been eaten and drunk there over the years.....
